When tug driver called for pushback he told me he was ready to go. [I] asked him if predeparture check was complete; if tow bar was secure; if bypass pin was installed; then proceeded with pushback. Need more training; supervision; checklist cards in tugs for pushback crews in this station; very infrequently; is it done properly.
