Narrative:

While reviewing the new QRH at cruise to better acquaint my self with the contents and new format in case of an emergency; I found that the index page numbers are incorrect for smoke and fumes removal. It shows incorrect pages in the QRH book and would be very hard to ever find it if we really needed it. No page references exist on the checklists when it refers you to another checklist which would then require you to go back to the index again; very inefficient during an emergency. Also the tabs for chapters have no numbers on them. If numbered this could assist in finding the pages faster for a checklist noted in the index. This integration of new procedures for the merger seems to be overlooking the previous safety culture that existed for many years at my previous airline. I am frustrated with the bare minimum approach and so I must use extra vigilance in making sure that my flight can operate safely as well as in compliance. I am not overall confident that the training given for the change of the manual to the QRH was sufficient for anything other than a perfect day with no non-normals. Some of the things that previous users of this QRH are not initially intuitive; to me with having no operating experience with it or practice in a classroom setting.

Title: A B757 Captain found the new QRH lacks chapter numbers mapped to the index and the SMOKE AND FUME REMOVAL checklist references are incorrect so that these flaws make the checklist cumbersome and slow to use.
