Narrative:
December 2010; myself and mechanic Y installed a serviceable 'C' duct [reverser translating sleeve] on the left engine of air carrier X's crj-900 aircraft; in accordance with (iaw) aircraft maintenance manual (amm) 78-30-00-802 and air carrier X's jobcards XXX; YYY and non-routine card ZZZ. Also performed air carrier X's taskcard for manual task operational check of thrust reverser; no defects were noted. Air carrier X informed [our company] air carrier Y last week; august 2011; that they found a left engine thrust reverser flex drive cable part number (P/north) ZZZ-01 missing from inside the inboard (inbrd) upper flex drive housing. Upon examining all paperwork; we found a parts tag stating that a flex drive P/north ZZZ-01 had been cannibalized (canned) from the left thrust reverser on the same aircraft.
