Narrative:
Lgciu 1 & lgciu 2 [landing gear control interface unit] fault. Accomplished ECAM; QRH and supplemental non-normal items. Referenced fom emergency chapter; briefed flight attendant's; passengers; company; and ATC. First officer; lead flight attendant; company; and I created a comprehensive plan to safely recover the aircraft giving consideration to maximizing a successful landing and minimizing stress on the passengers and flight attendant's. All involved worked flawlessly together. I was surprised to learn from the first officer; that this was his first ever real world emergency in any flying operation. Declared an emergency with approach.
