Narrative:
Airplane entered gate broken, several items were repaired. One item, the hydraulic reservoir was deferred by maintenance. I returned to operations to get an amendment and returned to the airplane. All of the passengers had already boarded so I rushed on board. I looked up the dmi in our MEL and quickly read it. I overlooked the fact that maintenance had deferred the hydraulic pressure gauge and not the reservoir which could not be deferred. We were supposed to have the gauge fixed before we departed. It is important not to rush.
