Narrative:
Cheyenne approach assigned an intercept heading and intercept altitude for the runway 27 ILS. I read back the intercept altitude as 7;000. On the approach cys tower issued a low altitude alert. Not sure if the cheyenne controller assigned the incorrect altitude or I misunderstood the altitude assignment. I think I read it back as 7;000; basically a miscommunication on the altitude assignment. As the pilot I should have noticed that the altitude of 7;000 MSL was too low for the intercept. Fortunately it was VMC at the time of the deviation.
