Narrative:

I was training a developmental; we had an SR22 inbound from the south for runway 17. We apreqed a left downwind entry for the visual approach to runway 17; tower approved it. We cleared the SR22 for the visual approach. The SR22 was switched to the tower but I do not recall when the SR22 was switched; but I know he was on tower frequency. Then later we got a departure strip on a BE40 departing on runway heading off runway 8R. We were not talking to either aircraft when the event happened. We then received the BE40 and he started asking about the aircraft that just flew over him. The BE40 told me that he had to descend to miss the SR22 and that 'it was a good thing we had him on TCAS.' we were not talking to either aircraft when the separation was lost. I was not directly involved in decisions that caused the event I have no recommendations.
