Narrative:
Approach phase; receiving radar vectors for visual approach; I was pilot not flying. Parking brake on light illuminated and subsequent EICAS warning prkg brk not released. QRH procedure complied with (called for cycling of parking brake lever). Radioed maintenance to advise and asked for suggestions to resolve. Maintenance had no further advice. Decided to land on the longest runway; flaps full. [I] assumed pilot flying duties for landing. Advised tower of aircraft situation; declared emergency and requested emergency vehicles for precaution. Upon touchdown; found braking was normal. Parking brake on light extinguished and EICAS message changed to prkg brk fault. Upon shutdown at gate; EICAS had no abnormal messages.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: An ERJ190 EICAS alerted PRKG BRK NOT RELEASED prior to approach but the QRH procedure failed to remedy the fault so an emergency was declared followed by a normal landing where the alert changed to PRKG BRK FAULT; then subsequently extinguished at the gate.
