Narrative:
Before receiving our clearance to depart I pre-filled part of the clearance I thought would be received. This included the airport destination; the departure procedure (TEB6); and altitude and departure frequency. Upon receiving the clearance I did not write the RUUDY2 departure as was received in the clearance because I had difficulty hearing the controller. I did hear the controller say the number '2'. I assumed this meant the RUUDY2 departure. I wrote the number '2' over the '6' that I had previously written for the TEB6 departure. I read the clearance back correctly including the RUUDY2 departure. I the completed the rest of the cockpit checks entered the departure altitude in the preselect and squawk code in the TCAS and then entered the clearance in the FMS. When I entered the clearance in the FMS I entered the TEB6 departure in the FMS forgetting that we were given the RUUDY2 departure. I briefed the captain on the TEB6 departure in the FMS and from the plate. We departed runway 24 and complied with the TEB6 as we had briefed. Upon getting the hand off to new york departure the controller stated we were a little off course for the RUUDY6 and gave us a heading to follow. It was at that point that I remembered we were flying the wrong procedure. I know I could have done a better job with copying the clearance by not pre-filling items that I think will be received. Also I need to make sure that I have all the cockpit checks completed before I get the clearance and set up the FMS. Also communication with the controller was not good. I should have tried a different radio to establish better communication.
