Narrative:
I wanted to land long and get off at [taxiway] charlie so the plane behind me could land. I put the down the gear about three miles out.when I touched down I bounced so I added a little power. As I did so I felt--or heard--or saw--something [move] under my right hand that was on the throttle. (The mooney has manual gear). As the plane settled back to the runway I heard the bottom of the plane contact the runway and the gear horn came on. As the plane slowed the nose came down and I watched the propeller get shorter.the tower called and asked if I was all right. I said yes; but there was smoke under the dash; I turned off the master and the fuel pump and got out of the plane. I spoke to the tower from the runway on my hand held and confirmed that I was all right. By then the airport's fire truck pulled up; but there was no fire. The FBO's truck took me back to the FBO.the FAA is still in touch with my mechanic to put the plane on jack to see if there was a mechanical failure.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A Mooney M20 pilot suffered the collapse of all three landing gear following a bounced landing. It is possible the manual gear extension lever became unrestrained following the bounce.
