Narrative:

Departing rwy 24 at teb on the ruudy 3 departure noticed FMS course line was about 15 degrees to the right of present heading. Initiated a right turn to follow the course line; but shortly realized that the initial heading was correct. The FMS generated course line was wrong. Both crew members checked both FMS units prior to departure. However; due to a mechanical problem; the airplane was shut down and the FMS units put in the standby mode. After powering the airplane back up the units were not rechecked. Somehow both units inserted a stray waypoint between the runway and the first departure fix. We missed it. I only noticed this after departure. When noticed; an immediate course correction to the left was made. The resultant flight path came out very close to the original SID and ATC did not mention any problems. Lesson learned: after putting the FMS to standby and powering back up; recheck the departure.

Title: CE560 Captain reports loading and checking both FMS units then placing them in standby while the aircraft is powered down for maintenance. During the RUUDY 3 departure a minor course deviation occurs due to an erroneous waypoint that has been created prior to the first waypoint.
