Narrative:
As we descended and were given speed reductions we started to configure the airplane. After the captain (pilot flying) called for flaps 30; I put the flap lever to 30 and proceeded to get a 'flaps fail' caution message. We told ATC; raised the gear and got delay vectors while I; as pilot not flying; performed the QRH advised the flight attendant; passengers and the company of what was going on. Dispatch and I came up with appropriate landing numbers. Approach vectored us for the long runway and we landed with no incident. We did declare an emergency to be on the safe side. But when we came to a stop on the runway all indications showed in the green and we were able to taxi to the gate on our own. The people were deplaned. I stood at the door as they got off and ensured that everyone was accounted for and in good health. We then proceeded with the rest of our scheduled day.
