Narrative:
We departed teb runway 24 on the ruudy 3 departure. The first officer was flying pilot and had briefed the takeoff. He did not brief and I failed to verify that there was a mandatory crossing altitude of 1;500 ft at wentz intersection. We climbed straight to 2;000 ft on departure; climbing above this crossing altitude. New york departure control pointed out our mistake and this is when I learned of the crossing altitude restriction. This mistake could have been prevented if I had taken the time to verify all fixes and crossing altitudes when the first officer was briefing me. This is a procedure I will incorporate on all future flights.
