Narrative:
On arrival into paris we were cleared to vedus. We were not give an arrival STAR or an expected STAR. Vedus 4W and vedus 5W were briefed. Paris then gave direct to devim. Both the first officer and I understood the clearance to be direct to divem. Paris asked if we were going direct to devim. I read back we were direct to divem. Paris finally spelled out the waypoint. Paris had change waypoint that day. Divem for vedus 4W; devim for vedus 5W. There was no problem as paris gave us a heading for the ILS 27R; normal landing. There was no company; country; or airport notams at our time of arrival. We received; a day later; notice from the company that there had been a major revisions to our nav charts. With language difficulty just reversing the letters I and east is not a good idea.

Title: A Captain reported that LFPG (CDG) TRACON cleared them direct DEVIM on the VEDUS 5W but they heard DIVEM on the VIDUS 4W and ATC ultimately provided a vector. Language and waypoint similarities were issues.
