Narrative:
11/88, I called and received a briefing before flying to sanford, me. On the way to sanford I decided to stop at nashua, nh, airport for fuel for the return trip, as I have been there numerous times in the past. Unknowingly to me, the tower had been activated some time in aug. I had checked my chart and my flight guide and they listed a 122.7 unicom frequency. I went to unicom and reported my position and proceeded to land. Upon landing I was contacted by the tower and told to report to them. The tower informed me that they had been in operation for some time. I had no way of knowing that the tower was now in operation because I didn't receive any information about nashua, nh, from service. My ny sectional shows no frequencys and the bos TCA chart shows 122.7. I can't understand why nashua couldn't monitor 122.7 to inform pilots in transit that they have a new frequency for tower operation. Area pilots should be notified by mail of important changes as they happen. A number of other local pilots said they had received notices in the mail. I never received anything about nashua opening a tower.

Title: GA SMA ENTERED ASH ATA AND LANDED WITHOUT CALLING TWR. TWR ACTIVATED LAST AUGUST AND ADVERTISED IN ARPT FAC DIRECTORY LONG BEFORE THIS FLT.
Narrative: 11/88, I CALLED AND RECEIVED A BRIEFING BEFORE FLYING TO SANFORD, ME. ON THE WAY TO SANFORD I DECIDED TO STOP AT NASHUA, NH, ARPT FOR FUEL FOR THE RETURN TRIP, AS I HAVE BEEN THERE NUMEROUS TIMES IN THE PAST. UNKNOWINGLY TO ME, THE TWR HAD BEEN ACTIVATED SOME TIME IN AUG. I HAD CHKED MY CHART AND MY FLT GUIDE AND THEY LISTED A 122.7 UNICOM FREQ. I WENT TO UNICOM AND RPTED MY POS AND PROCEEDED TO LAND. UPON LNDG I WAS CONTACTED BY THE TWR AND TOLD TO RPT TO THEM. THE TWR INFORMED ME THAT THEY HAD BEEN IN OPERATION FOR SOME TIME. I HAD NO WAY OF KNOWING THAT THE TWR WAS NOW IN OPERATION BECAUSE I DIDN'T RECEIVE ANY INFO ABOUT NASHUA, NH, FROM SVC. MY NY SECTIONAL SHOWS NO FREQS AND THE BOS TCA CHART SHOWS 122.7. I CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHY NASHUA COULDN'T MONITOR 122.7 TO INFORM PLTS IN TRANSIT THAT THEY HAVE A NEW FREQ FOR TWR OPERATION. AREA PLTS SHOULD BE NOTIFIED BY MAIL OF IMPORTANT CHANGES AS THEY HAPPEN. A NUMBER OF OTHER LCL PLTS SAID THEY HAD RECEIVED NOTICES IN THE MAIL. I NEVER RECEIVED ANYTHING ABOUT NASHUA OPENING A TWR.
