Narrative:
After normal engine start and taxi out the first officer attempted to set trim for takeoff. The trim wheel had an abnormal amount of resistance and binding. Parked in pad and consulted with maintenance control then returned to the gate for a maintenance inspection.

Title: An A320 flight crew returned to the gate for maintenance when attempts to set the takeoff trim resulted in abnormal resistance and binding.
