Narrative:
ATC assigned 6;000 ft and the FMC and chart indicate crossing jemsu at 8;000 ft. We had just crossed bushy. ATC explained that not going down to 6;000 ft right away causes complications for overhead traffic going into sfo. If that is the case; why does the chart assign jemsu at 8;000 ft? ATC asked us to highlight this dilemma to our flight crews. We were in VNAV path and did not respond to the descent instruction quickly enough.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: Air Carrier arriving OAK; routed via Bushy; was questioned by ATC regarding the late descent to 6;000; noting the potential conflict with SFO traffic routed overhead; the flight crew acknowledged late response to descent instructions.
