Narrative:

On the 45 degree departure from 30R I declared an emergency after takeoff from sjc. The emergency was started by the tachometer going into the red and manifold pressure falling. The altitude at that moment approximately 1100 MSL. I made an immediate right turn to downwind to 30R, called tower, told them my situation. They informed me of traffic in pattern (several reported) and asked if I wanted to declare an emergency. Because of traffic and short time to assess problem, I declared emergency. I landed without incident. P.south. Governor (propeller) failed, is now being repaired.
