Narrative:
Landed lax 25L. Took high speed turnoff approximately 2/3 down runway. Tower said hold short 25R. We held approximately 2 min then cleared to cross 25R. Aircraft visible on final 25R so expedited crossing, saw movement to my left and used heavy braking to avoid hitting an medium large transport eastbound on 25R parallel. Heaved a sigh of relief while first officer was contacting ground and we were turning onto parallel eastbound behind medium large transport.I followed the medium large transport as the first officer checked in with ground and heard him say we were supposed to hold to allow another carrier (large transport) holding on a 25R turnoff to proceed ahead of us. I did not hear the original ground clearance and as ground controller said we were supposed to hold for the large transport, I asked what happened when we almost hit the medium large transport that was never mentioned. The large transport was visible and there was no collision hazard. Some kind of improved tower/ground internal tower cabin contact is needed to prevent conflict and contact.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: CLEARED TO CROSS ACTIVE RWY AND HAD TO MAKE SUDDEN STOP TO AVOID MLG TAXIING ON PARALLEL.
Narrative: LANDED LAX 25L. TOOK HIGH SPD TURNOFF APPROX 2/3 DOWN RWY. TWR SAID HOLD SHORT 25R. WE HELD APPROX 2 MIN THEN CLRED TO CROSS 25R. ACFT VISIBLE ON FINAL 25R SO EXPEDITED XING, SAW MOVEMENT TO MY L AND USED HEAVY BRAKING TO AVOID HITTING AN MLG EBND ON 25R PARALLEL. HEAVED A SIGH OF RELIEF WHILE F/O WAS CONTACTING GND AND WE WERE TURNING ONTO PARALLEL EBND BEHIND MLG.I FOLLOWED THE MLG AS THE F/O CHKED IN WITH GND AND HEARD HIM SAY WE WERE SUPPOSED TO HOLD TO ALLOW ANOTHER CARRIER (LGT) HOLDING ON A 25R TURNOFF TO PROCEED AHEAD OF US. I DID NOT HEAR THE ORIGINAL GND CLRNC AND AS GND CTLR SAID WE WERE SUPPOSED TO HOLD FOR THE LGT, I ASKED WHAT HAPPENED WHEN WE ALMOST HIT THE MLG THAT WAS NEVER MENTIONED. THE LGT WAS VISIBLE AND THERE WAS NO COLLISION HAZARD. SOME KIND OF IMPROVED TWR/GND INTERNAL TWR CABIN CONTACT IS NEEDED TO PREVENT CONFLICT AND CONTACT.
