Narrative:
It was a rainy day with fog and light turbulence at lax. Reported ceiling was 1300' broken but was closer to 300', 1 mi with fog. After being cleared for the approach to runway 25L at lax which occurs about 25 mi out we were given a runway change to runway 7R and vectors to the runway on the downwind the runway was changed to runway 6L with vectors. The vectors to the runway come quick and the aircraft was high for the approach. Also we were turned inside the OM. Believing the WX was higher we continued the approach. The landing was uneventful, catching up with the G/south about 500' AGL. After landing and the captain taking control of the aircraft and switching to ground control, we were asked if we had heard the tower instructions. I answered no, not knowing the captain had not talked to tower during the landing. Thus, we were not cleared to land. With the runway changed, short vectors for landing, radio and navigation frequency changes in short order plus lower than reported ceilings the call to tower was not made.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: LANDED WITHOUT CLRNC AT LAX DUE TO SEVERAL CLRNC REVISIONS AND POOR VECTORING WHICH DISTRACTED FLT CREW FROM CALLING TWR.
Narrative: IT WAS A RAINY DAY WITH FOG AND LIGHT TURB AT LAX. RPTED CEILING WAS 1300' BROKEN BUT WAS CLOSER TO 300', 1 MI WITH FOG. AFTER BEING CLRED FOR THE APCH TO RWY 25L AT LAX WHICH OCCURS ABOUT 25 MI OUT WE WERE GIVEN A RWY CHANGE TO RWY 7R AND VECTORS TO THE RWY ON THE DOWNWIND THE RWY WAS CHANGED TO RWY 6L WITH VECTORS. THE VECTORS TO THE RWY COME QUICK AND THE ACFT WAS HIGH FOR THE APCH. ALSO WE WERE TURNED INSIDE THE OM. BELIEVING THE WX WAS HIGHER WE CONTINUED THE APCH. THE LNDG WAS UNEVENTFUL, CATCHING UP WITH THE G/S ABOUT 500' AGL. AFTER LNDG AND THE CAPT TAKING CTL OF THE ACFT AND SWITCHING TO GND CTL, WE WERE ASKED IF WE HAD HEARD THE TWR INSTRUCTIONS. I ANSWERED NO, NOT KNOWING THE CAPT HAD NOT TALKED TO TWR DURING THE LNDG. THUS, WE WERE NOT CLRED TO LAND. WITH THE RWY CHANGED, SHORT VECTORS FOR LNDG, RADIO AND NAV FREQ CHANGES IN SHORT ORDER PLUS LOWER THAN RPTED CEILINGS THE CALL TO TWR WAS NOT MADE.
