Approaching rutland we entered the hold as instructed and ran into severe clear ice. Ice loaded up on the propellers and the crew experienced severe aircraft vibrations. Flight declared an emergency and climbed to 9000' VFR to clear up the problem. The crew was able to correct the problem and no further assistance was needed. Landing was completed.
