Narrative:
Possible lightning strike. Contract maintenance was notified and an inspection was accomplished in accordance with maintenance manual. No damage was found. Log book entry was made and signed off by contract maintenance, but no air worthiness release was signed. The following day it was discovered that possibly an air worthiness release was required. If this is in fact true, then company operations manual should so state. Supplemental information from acn 104368: we have suggested that the operations manual be more specific in stating what has to have an airworthiness inspection so we don't have to rely on some maintenance supervisor's interpretation of the maintenance manual itself.
