Narrative:
Cak departure control cleared us to 10000', heading 250 degrees to intercept the mansfield 092 degree right to mfd. The first officer read back, 'cleared to 10000', heading 250 degrees, intercept the 092 right to mansfield.' passing approximately 9000' cak said we were only cleared to 8000' and to descend to 9000' immediately. We complied and after the incident asked cak departure control if we should contact them on the telephone. They said no.

Narrative: CAK DEP CTL CLRED US TO 10000', HDG 250 DEGS TO INTERCEPT THE MANSFIELD 092 DEG R TO MFD. THE F/O READ BACK, 'CLRED TO 10000', HDG 250 DEGS, INTERCEPT THE 092 R TO MANSFIELD.' PASSING APPROX 9000' CAK SAID WE WERE ONLY CLRED TO 8000' AND TO DSND TO 9000' IMMEDIATELY. WE COMPLIED AND AFTER THE INCIDENT ASKED CAK DEP CTL IF WE SHOULD CONTACT THEM ON THE TELEPHONE.
