Narrative:

Air carrier flight xx, san to phx, flying and descending on the arlin 7 arrival for the purpose of landing at phx. We were directed by center to cross the arlin fix at 11000' and 250 KTS. The arlin fix is located off the chd VOR on the 256 degree right at 52 mi. Unfortunately we idented the fix as being at 32 mi instead of 52. The mistake was not discovered until 1 mi prior to reaching arlin. Altitude was 15000' and speed 320 KTS descending! Our attempted communication with center, to detail our problem, was blocked by other traffic. Handoff to approach was normal and ATC indicated that there was no conflict. 1) primary problem must have been our attention to detail, or lack thereof! 2) the arlin arrival has very recently been completely restructured! 3) the 32 mi fix was actually a segment distance in bold type while the 52 mi fix was noted in very small and light type!! Can this be changed?

Title: FLT CREW MISIDENTIFIED LOCATION OF STAR FIX AND THUS DID NOT COMPLY WITH CROSSING ALT AND SPEED RESTRICTION.

Narrative: ACR FLT XX, SAN TO PHX, FLYING AND DSNDING ON THE ARLIN 7 ARR FOR THE PURPOSE OF LNDG AT PHX. WE WERE DIRECTED BY CENTER TO CROSS THE ARLIN FIX AT 11000' AND 250 KTS. THE MISTAKE WAS NOT DISCOVERED UNTIL 1 MI PRIOR TO REACHING ARLIN. ALT WAS 15000' AND SPD 320 KTS DSNDING! OUR ATTEMPTED COM WITH CENTER, TO DETAIL OUR PROB, WAS BLOCKED BY OTHER TFC. HDOF TO APCH WAS NORMAL AND ATC INDICATED THAT THERE WAS NO CONFLICT. 1) PRIMARY PROB MUST HAVE BEEN OUR ATTN TO DETAIL, OR LACK THEREOF! 2) THE ARLIN ARR HAS VERY RECENTLY BEEN COMPLETELY RESTRUCTURED! 3) THE 32 MI FIX WAS ACTUALLY A SEGMENT DISTANCE IN BOLD TYPE WHILE THE 52 MI FIX WAS NOTED IN VERY SMALL AND LIGHT TYPE!! CAN THIS BE CHANGED?
