Narrative:

While doing a lights check on post-flight, we noticed the widebody transport cargo fire lights were both 'fwd,' versus 'fwd aft.' they were either installed improperly by mfg, or accidentally mis-repaired by maintenance. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following: light is located on the pedestal and would be lit if a fire was indicated. Pressing the light arms the squibs, so the agent would be discharged to the correct compartment having the fire. Flight crews do not change bulbs on this aircraft since a special tool is required to remove the cover. He suspects maintenance put on the wrong cover. It has now been corrected on the aircraft and management was notified. Supplemental information from acn 106563: both cargo area lights (forward and aft) were labeled 'fwd.' this was not noted on the initial test in phl.

Title: CARGO FIRE LIGHTS BOTH LABELLED 'FORWARD' VERSES 'FORWARD-AFT.'

Narrative: WHILE DOING A LIGHTS CHK ON POST-FLT, WE NOTICED THE WDB CARGO FIRE LIGHTS WERE BOTH 'FWD,' VERSUS 'FWD AFT.' THEY WERE EITHER INSTALLED IMPROPERLY BY MFG, OR ACCIDENTALLY MIS-REPAIRED BY MAINT. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING: LIGHT IS LOCATED ON THE PEDESTAL AND WOULD BE LIT IF A FIRE WAS INDICATED. PRESSING THE LIGHT ARMS THE SQUIBS, SO THE AGENT WOULD BE DISCHARGED TO THE CORRECT COMPARTMENT HAVING THE FIRE. FLT CREWS DO NOT CHANGE BULBS ON THIS ACFT SINCE A SPECIAL TOOL IS REQUIRED TO REMOVE THE COVER. HE SUSPECTS MAINT PUT ON THE WRONG COVER. IT HAS NOW BEEN CORRECTED ON THE ACFT AND MGMNT WAS NOTIFIED. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 106563: BOTH CARGO AREA LIGHTS (FORWARD AND AFT) WERE LABELED 'FWD.' THIS WAS NOT NOTED ON THE INITIAL TEST IN PHL.
