Narrative:
ILS approach; the captain was pilot flying and called for gear at approximately 6 miles on final. The left main gear did not indicate down and three green. We executed a go-around and declared an emergency. The QRH led us to the emergency gear extension checklist and on a long final we lowered the gear handle as the first step of that checklist. When the gear handle was lowered we received all three gear indicators down and three green. The approach and landing proceeded with no further incident. Excellent work by the first officer.
