Narrative:
Anc tower pointed out military on final to edf AFB to the west of my departure path heading east on approach to runway 05 at edf. Anc tower cleared me to depart and remain above or behind the crossing aircraft. On takeoff roll it became obvious that a turn to the west and a healthy climb rate would be required to comply. This was accomplished, but I was concerned about what the military crew might think with an medium large transport heading at them. The military crew was on edf tower frequency so they would not be aware of my clearance. Just a guess, but I feel we were at least 1000' above and 1/2 mi behind them when our paths crossed, but if I was in their aircraft I might have considered some evasive action. Even though anc tower gave the takeoff instructions and I accepted them I have to wonder if this might be careless or reckless operations far 91.9. If I had lost an engine and/or had a flight control problem the sep would have been much less. I think takeoff clearance should be held until arriving edf traffic is past runway 32 centerline. This might not be a bad situation yet, but with edf traffic on another frequency more sep will be required for future departures on my part.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ANC DEP CLIMBED ABOVE AND CROSSED OVER MIL ACFT ON FINAL APCH TO EDF.
Narrative: ANC TWR POINTED OUT MIL ON FINAL TO EDF AFB TO THE W OF MY DEP PATH HDG E ON APCH TO RWY 05 AT EDF. ANC TWR CLRED ME TO DEPART AND REMAIN ABOVE OR BEHIND THE XING ACFT. ON TKOF ROLL IT BECAME OBVIOUS THAT A TURN TO THE W AND A HEALTHY CLB RATE WOULD BE REQUIRED TO COMPLY. THIS WAS ACCOMPLISHED, BUT I WAS CONCERNED ABOUT WHAT THE MIL CREW MIGHT THINK WITH AN MLG HDG AT THEM. THE MIL CREW WAS ON EDF TWR FREQ SO THEY WOULD NOT BE AWARE OF MY CLRNC. JUST A GUESS, BUT I FEEL WE WERE AT LEAST 1000' ABOVE AND 1/2 MI BEHIND THEM WHEN OUR PATHS CROSSED, BUT IF I WAS IN THEIR ACFT I MIGHT HAVE CONSIDERED SOME EVASIVE ACTION. EVEN THOUGH ANC TWR GAVE THE TKOF INSTRUCTIONS AND I ACCEPTED THEM I HAVE TO WONDER IF THIS MIGHT BE CARELESS OR RECKLESS OPS FAR 91.9. IF I HAD LOST AN ENG AND/OR HAD A FLT CTL PROB THE SEP WOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH LESS. I THINK TKOF CLRNC SHOULD BE HELD UNTIL ARRIVING EDF TFC IS PAST RWY 32 CENTERLINE. THIS MIGHT NOT BE A BAD SITUATION YET, BUT WITH EDF TFC ON ANOTHER FREQ MORE SEP WILL BE REQUIRED FOR FUTURE DEPS ON MY PART.
