Narrative:

I was taking an assistant chief flight instrument to chkride with an FAA examiner. He briefed me we would be going to franklin airport (approximately 10 NM due south). I called the tower and asked for a right hand departure. We were using runway 12. He made the takeoff and departure. He was talking to me about what procedures I should follow when I become an assistant chief flight instrument. He was climbing very rapidly with only a slight right turn. In the back of my mind, I was uncomfortable with his departure procedure, but I was too timid to request he make a steeper right turn. I was not aware that we were busting the arsa, but I had never departed runway 12 before without flight following or a sharp right turn. I figured he must know something I didn't. Anyway, at about 2000' MSL he suddenly dove the aircraft and warned me not to go into arsa's. We were on tower frequency, but the arsa starts at 1600' over the departure end on runway 12. He didn't bust me on the chkride because I think he realized it was his fault and he was clearly flying the aircraft at the time. However, it was my fault for not speaking up and remembering that the arsa starts over runway 12. I might recommend that in the run-up area, it is clearly stated who is PIC and who will have the responsibility for the flight. This would be especially important in the event of an emergency.

Title: FAA EXAMINER FLYING SMA ACFT WITH AN EXAMINEE ON BOARD INADVERTENTLY ENTERED SMF ARSA.

Narrative: I WAS TAKING AN ASSISTANT CHIEF FLT INSTR TO CHKRIDE WITH AN FAA EXAMINER. HE BRIEFED ME WE WOULD BE GOING TO FRANKLIN ARPT (APPROX 10 NM DUE S). I CALLED THE TWR AND ASKED FOR A RIGHT HAND DEP. WE WERE USING RWY 12. HE MADE THE TKOF AND DEP. HE WAS TALKING TO ME ABOUT WHAT PROCS I SHOULD FOLLOW WHEN I BECOME AN ASSISTANT CHIEF FLT INSTR. HE WAS CLBING VERY RAPIDLY WITH ONLY A SLIGHT RIGHT TURN. IN THE BACK OF MY MIND, I WAS UNCOMFORTABLE WITH HIS DEP PROC, BUT I WAS TOO TIMID TO REQUEST HE MAKE A STEEPER RIGHT TURN. I WAS NOT AWARE THAT WE WERE BUSTING THE ARSA, BUT I HAD NEVER DEPARTED RWY 12 BEFORE WITHOUT FLT FOLLOWING OR A SHARP RIGHT TURN. I FIGURED HE MUST KNOW SOMETHING I DIDN'T. ANYWAY, AT ABOUT 2000' MSL HE SUDDENLY DOVE THE ACFT AND WARNED ME NOT TO GO INTO ARSA'S. WE WERE ON TWR FREQ, BUT THE ARSA STARTS AT 1600' OVER THE DEP END ON RWY 12. HE DIDN'T BUST ME ON THE CHKRIDE BECAUSE I THINK HE REALIZED IT WAS HIS FAULT AND HE WAS CLEARLY FLYING THE ACFT AT THE TIME. HOWEVER, IT WAS MY FAULT FOR NOT SPEAKING UP AND REMEMBERING THAT THE ARSA STARTS OVER RWY 12. I MIGHT RECOMMEND THAT IN THE RUN-UP AREA, IT IS CLEARLY STATED WHO IS PIC AND WHO WILL HAVE THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE FLT. THIS WOULD BE ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT IN THE EVENT OF AN EMER.
