Narrative:
It was a day the controller appeared to be saturated. We approached dfw from the east. We were given vectors over the top of the airport for an approach to the west side landing 18R. We were at 11000', given a turn to the north for a downwind and given descent clearance to 6000'. Next we were given a turn east for a base leg. The next call to us from the controller was to expedite to 3000'. At our 3 O'clock position and appearing to be at our altitude was an aircraft heading toward us. The controller also turned the approaching aircraft out to the west. It looked like a fairly close pass between us. We all agreed in the cockpit we heard no other descent clearance for us. We feel the controller missed a descent call for us.

Title: ACR ON VECTORS FOR BASE LEG TOLD TO EXPEDITE TO 3000'. AT 3 O'CLOCK POSITION SIGHTED ANOTHER ACR HEADING DIRECTLY TOWARD THEM AT SAME ALT. SECOND ACFT HAD BEEN CLEARED TO THE WEST FOR APCH.
Narrative: IT WAS A DAY THE CTLR APPEARED TO BE SATURATED. WE APCHED DFW FROM THE E. WE WERE GIVEN VECTORS OVER THE TOP OF THE ARPT FOR AN APCH TO THE W SIDE LNDG 18R. WE WERE AT 11000', GIVEN A TURN TO THE N FOR A DOWNWIND AND GIVEN DSCNT CLRNC TO 6000'. NEXT WE WERE GIVEN A TURN E FOR A BASE LEG. THE NEXT CALL TO US FROM THE CTLR WAS TO EXPEDITE TO 3000'. AT OUR 3 O'CLOCK POS AND APPEARING TO BE AT OUR ALT WAS AN ACFT HDG TOWARD US. THE CTLR ALSO TURNED THE APCHING ACFT OUT TO THE W. IT LOOKED LIKE A FAIRLY CLOSE PASS BTWN US. WE ALL AGREED IN THE COCKPIT WE HEARD NO OTHER DSCNT CLRNC FOR US. WE FEEL THE CTLR MISSED A DSCNT CALL FOR US.
