Narrative:
The small transport departed runway 34R northbound. I asked departure for a turn reference an air carrier behind him which was also northbound. Departure said to keep him straight out. I then launched the air carrier wbound behind the small aircraft with a 280 degree heading. Departure then coordinated that the small aircraft was on a 310 degree heading.I noticed that the targets were going to be close so I immediately got both aircraft in sight and maintained visibility sep with them. When I saw the air carrier pass behind and over the small aircraft, I switched him to departure frequency. The pilot called 2 days later and said that he had to make evasive maneuvers to miss the small aircraft. Neither I nor my coordinator saw the air carrier make any unusual departure procedures and the pilot never mentioned it to me. I suggest that departure and local control come up with a plan in reference to requests for special headings for smaller, slower aircraft such as not turning a slower aircraft to a specified heading until out of a certain altitude or distance from the airport.

Title: A DEPARTING ACR OVERTOOK A PREVIOUSLY DEPARTED SMA.
Narrative: THE SMT DEPARTED RWY 34R NBND. I ASKED DEP FOR A TURN REF AN ACR BEHIND HIM WHICH WAS ALSO NBND. DEP SAID TO KEEP HIM STRAIGHT OUT. I THEN LAUNCHED THE ACR WBOUND BEHIND THE SMA WITH A 280 DEG HDG. DEP THEN COORDINATED THAT THE SMA WAS ON A 310 DEG HDG.I NOTICED THAT THE TARGETS WERE GOING TO BE CLOSE SO I IMMEDIATELY GOT BOTH ACFT IN SIGHT AND MAINTAINED VIS SEP WITH THEM. WHEN I SAW THE ACR PASS BEHIND AND OVER THE SMA, I SWITCHED HIM TO DEP FREQ. THE PLT CALLED 2 DAYS LATER AND SAID THAT HE HAD TO MAKE EVASIVE MANEUVERS TO MISS THE SMA. NEITHER I NOR MY COORDINATOR SAW THE ACR MAKE ANY UNUSUAL DEP PROCS AND THE PLT NEVER MENTIONED IT TO ME. I SUGGEST THAT DEP AND LCL CTL COME UP WITH A PLAN IN REF TO REQUESTS FOR SPECIAL HDGS FOR SMALLER, SLOWER ACFT SUCH AS NOT TURNING A SLOWER ACFT TO A SPECIFIED HDG UNTIL OUT OF A CERTAIN ALT OR DISTANCE FROM THE ARPT.
