Narrative:

Number 2 engine oil temp exceeded 162 C (advisory triggered). Aircraft was written up on inbound leg for high oil temp of 162 C. Maintenance had performed service/engine run. Mandatory shut down per QRH is at 177 C or above 162 C for 20 min. [On the next leg] based on the previous write up; the speed of the oil temperature rise and the fact that we were about to be overwater for 2 hours with no fields nearby; we elected to return. Temp peaked at 168 C 9 minutes after exceeding 162 (we were already in the descent). No emergency was declared and there was an uneventful approach and landing. Better maintenance personnel.
