Company shop personnel are finding it difficult to determine the procedure for ascertaining product shelf life.

Narrative:
Qa audit wrote shop up for material on hand with vendor expiration dates past. Historically [computer program] used to determine [company] shelf life. Per [company document] life not established or not controlled. My supervisor has ordered the shop to disregard [company] shelf life and go by vendor expiration dates. The material in question is mostly shrink tubing. Sign off sheets have been established to check vendor expiration dates and sign off that this has been accomplished. An area that contains non packaged 4 foot long material (with no way I can see to establish shelf life ) was recently sign- off as checked. Additionally I have asked engineering about non stock purchased material and shelf life. Some of this tubing is marked and then cut up and stored in individual boxes for later use to identify parts of harness. Does shelf life matter here?
