Narrative:
Departed bog with a placarded center of gravity control computer with an MEL item that was not on release. Therefore, load did not know to coordinate the MEL requirements. The required 1.5% adjustment to center of gravity limitations and coordination of 1% additional fuel never took place. We had the fuel and center of gravity was well within limits. However, the provisos of the MEL were not properly coordination. Contributing factors would be a confign deviation list requirement on our flight that weight restr us and was very confusing. We spent an inordinate amount of time coordinating that and missed the center of gravity control computer requirement, also because this item is so common and rarely as critical as a big weight restr. I will henceforth be closely comparing the release to the logbook and the MEL. The really sneaky thing about this issue is that the logbook was totally in order -- and in fact, had been the airplane we brought in (with aforementioned items correctly noted on release the previous day). They won't catch me again. Apparently maintenance had deleted the center of gravity control computer item from the computer as signed off, when in fact it was still placarded. Supplemental information from acn 370870: will be more vigilant.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FLC OF AN A300 HAVE DIFFICULTY IN ASCERTAINING THE REASON FOR THE WT RESTR IMPOSED ON THE FLT VIA THE DISPATCH RELEASE. THEY HAD NOT COMPARED THE LOGBOOK AND MEL LIST TO FIND THE REASON. THINKING THAT IT WAS A CDL PROB, THEY SPENT A LOT OF TIME IN ATTEMPTING TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE SO THAT COORD COULD BE EFFECTED WITH LOAD CTL. CREW HAD THIS ACFT THE DAY BEFORE.
Narrative: DEPARTED BOG WITH A PLACARDED CTR OF GRAVITY CTL COMPUTER WITH AN MEL ITEM THAT WAS NOT ON RELEASE. THEREFORE, LOAD DID NOT KNOW TO COORDINATE THE MEL REQUIREMENTS. THE REQUIRED 1.5% ADJUSTMENT TO CTR OF GRAVITY LIMITATIONS AND COORD OF 1% ADDITIONAL FUEL NEVER TOOK PLACE. WE HAD THE FUEL AND CTR OF GRAVITY WAS WELL WITHIN LIMITS. HOWEVER, THE PROVISOS OF THE MEL WERE NOT PROPERLY COORD. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS WOULD BE A CONFIGN DEV LIST REQUIREMENT ON OUR FLT THAT WT RESTR US AND WAS VERY CONFUSING. WE SPENT AN INORDINATE AMOUNT OF TIME COORDINATING THAT AND MISSED THE CTR OF GRAVITY CTL COMPUTER REQUIREMENT, ALSO BECAUSE THIS ITEM IS SO COMMON AND RARELY AS CRITICAL AS A BIG WT RESTR. APPARENTLY MAINT HAD DELETED THE CTR OF GRAVITY CTL COMPUTER ITEM FROM THE COMPUTER AS SIGNED OFF, WHEN IN FACT IT WAS STILL PLACARDED. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 370870: WILL BE MORE VIGILANT.
