Narrative:
On 5/sat/89 after checking WX via the local recorded WX briefings, I departed spadaro's airfield. When I reached the southern coast of long island, I turned to a westerly heading to follow the southern coast of long island to the coast of new jersey. My route of flight was then to turn southerly to follow the new jersey coast to bader field. Along the way I lost sight of land trying to circumnav a dark area of the sky. I suspected there was a thunderstorm within this area. I became disoriented and attempted to contact jfk and atlantic city apches for vectors but was unsuccessful. Before my situation became an emergency, I called to anybody listening on 121.5. I spoke to controllers and an air carrier pilot. I received vectors directly from ATC and via the air carrier pilot. With the assistance of vectors from ATC and the air carrier pilot, I was able to find cape may airport, and land without incident. I landed with 30 minutes of fuel on board. Had I turned back when I suspected the thunderstorm, this situation could have been averted.

Title: GA SMA BECAME LOST ON A FLT FROM 1N2 TO ACY. PLT USED 121 PT 5 TO GET FLT ASSIST THAT WAS COMPLETED THROUGH RELAY BY ACR FLT CREW. ACFT FINALLY LANDED 30 NM SOUTH OF DESTINATION.
