Narrative:

Upon taxi out to 5R at cleveland hopkins, I switched over to tower about 120 yds from end of runway. Tower then asked us to contact ground. Ground admonished us for leaving the frequency. It seems he had some traffic he wanted us to hold for, (which we did). I believe this is another instance of a crew doing things by rote. I had been doing this trip for 3 months and I switched to tower at a spot where ground tells us to go to tower. I am lucky to have the issue of crew complacency reinforced in such a benign way. On another note, this airport has hold short lines still visible on a taxiway that intersects a now closed runway, a real problem during reduced visibility operations.

Title: FLT CREW OF MLG TAXIING AT CLE CHANGED FROM GND FREQ TO TWR FREQ WITHOUT CLRNC. TWR REQUESTED THE FLT GO BACK TO GND FOR FURTHER CLRNC.

Narrative: UPON TAXI OUT TO 5R AT CLEVELAND HOPKINS, I SWITCHED OVER TO TWR ABOUT 120 YDS FROM END OF RWY. TWR THEN ASKED US TO CONTACT GND. GND ADMONISHED US FOR LEAVING THE FREQ. IT SEEMS HE HAD SOME TFC HE WANTED US TO HOLD FOR, (WHICH WE DID). I BELIEVE THIS IS ANOTHER INSTANCE OF A CREW DOING THINGS BY ROTE. I HAD BEEN DOING THIS TRIP FOR 3 MONTHS AND I SWITCHED TO TWR AT A SPOT WHERE GND TELLS US TO GO TO TWR. I AM LUCKY TO HAVE THE ISSUE OF CREW COMPLACENCY REINFORCED IN SUCH A BENIGN WAY. ON ANOTHER NOTE, THIS ARPT HAS HOLD SHORT LINES STILL VISIBLE ON A TXWY THAT INTERSECTS A NOW CLOSED RWY, A REAL PROBLEM DURING REDUCED VISIBILITY OPERATIONS.
