Narrative:

Traveling en route to fulton from penyan (1ST cross country solo). I landed at syracuse on runway 32. Radio contact was not established. On downwind to 32 I realized I was at syracuse and had made a mistake. At that time I felt that by my previous actions I had established a definite 'intention' with the tower and it would be a safer act to continue on and land than to 'just depart.' rescue and service truck escorted me to light plane operations as per tower request. I called tower via telephone, received instructions for departure. I asked if they had a 'slower' traffic time and was advised about XA00 hours. I waited until then to depart. Syracuse tower personnel were very helpful and very professional and I give them my sincere thanks. Reporter states that he arrived in this situation by monitoring the frequency of the fulton unicom. He then heard another aircraft call re entry into pattern and assumed that the aircraft he had in sight was the one going to fulton. It was not the correct aircraft. He followed another into the traffic pattern at syr airport. No lights were flashed at him that he could see. Understandably, his instructor was a bit upset with the news and he is now scheduled for more trips with instrument. The next trip is into syr. The FAA had requested a letter from reporter and is looking into the matter.
