Narrative:
The aircraft still in cruise phase en route to bwi from uca at 15,000'. Approaching lrp on V-499 the captain using VOR 1, first officer VOR set on bwi 012 degree radial to identify vinny intersection on V-93 into bwi. First officer was using comm 2 to provide ATIS and gate information when the captain was informed by ZNY on comm 1 that he was following V-499 and not V-93. The captain turned left and intercepted V-93 without incident our clearance read in part, set V-170 to V-499 lrp V-93 bwi, which entails 4 VOR's, 5 course changes of which 2 require simultaneous use of 2 vors in which to identify an intersection. Short legs between vors (35 NM longest and 2 at 19 NM) all within 100 NM of bwi. The captain remembered the route in error as he departed lrp. He was proceeding down V-499 to trish intersection, a route he had flown into bwi numerous times. Simplify and streamline the arrival gates and course deviation will decrease accordingly.

Title: FLYING OUTBOUND FROM VOR ON WRONG AIRWAY.
Narrative: THE ACFT STILL IN CRUISE PHASE ENRTE TO BWI FROM UCA AT 15,000'. APCHING LRP ON V-499 THE CAPT USING VOR 1, F/O VOR SET ON BWI 012 DEG RADIAL TO IDENTIFY VINNY INTXN ON V-93 INTO BWI. F/O WAS USING COMM 2 TO PROVIDE ATIS AND GATE INFO WHEN THE CAPT WAS INFORMED BY ZNY ON COMM 1 THAT HE WAS FOLLOWING V-499 AND NOT V-93. THE CAPT TURNED LEFT AND INTERCEPTED V-93 WITHOUT INCIDENT OUR CLRNC READ IN PART, SET V-170 TO V-499 LRP V-93 BWI, WHICH ENTAILS 4 VOR'S, 5 COURSE CHANGES OF WHICH 2 REQUIRE SIMULTANEOUS USE OF 2 VORS IN WHICH TO IDENTIFY AN INTXN. SHORT LEGS BETWEEN VORS (35 NM LONGEST AND 2 AT 19 NM) ALL WITHIN 100 NM OF BWI. THE CAPT REMEMBERED THE ROUTE IN ERROR AS HE DEPARTED LRP. HE WAS PROCEEDING DOWN V-499 TO TRISH INTXN, A ROUTE HE HAD FLOWN INTO BWI NUMEROUS TIMES. SIMPLIFY AND STREAMLINE THE ARR GATES AND COURSE DEVIATION WILL DECREASE ACCORDINGLY.
