Narrative:
On initial check-in with ground control at msp we were advised 'cleared to runway 11R, hold short of 4/12'. Copilot acknowledged taxi instructions including hold short. Upon reaching 4/22 crossing we were cleared to 'follow an air carrier Y medium large transport to 11R'. Air carrier Y was then 'cleared to cross 4/22'. Air carrier Y confirmed 'cleared to cross 4/22?' and ground replied 'cleared to cross 4/22. We understood our clearance to 'follow air carrier Y' as a new clearance to 11R. The ground controller indicated that he intended our clearance to follow air carrier Y medium large transport as a sequenced clearance only, and that we were expected to hold short of 4/22. We crossed 4/22 behind air carrier Y as cleared. No traffic conflict occurred.

Title: ACR WDB UNAUTH RWY CROSSING.
Narrative: ON INITIAL CHECK-IN WITH GND CTL AT MSP WE WERE ADVISED 'CLRED TO RWY 11R, HOLD SHORT OF 4/12'. COPLT ACKNOWLEDGED TAXI INSTRUCTIONS INCLUDING HOLD SHORT. UPON REACHING 4/22 XING WE WERE CLRED TO 'FOLLOW AN ACR Y MLG TO 11R'. ACR Y WAS THEN 'CLRED TO CROSS 4/22'. ACR Y CONFIRMED 'CLRED TO CROSS 4/22?' AND GND REPLIED 'CLRED TO CROSS 4/22. WE UNDERSTOOD OUR CLRNC TO 'FOLLOW ACR Y' AS A NEW CLRNC TO 11R. THE GND CTLR INDICATED THAT HE INTENDED OUR CLRNC TO FOLLOW ACR Y MLG AS A SEQUENCED CLRNC ONLY, AND THAT WE WERE EXPECTED TO HOLD SHORT OF 4/22. WE CROSSED 4/22 BEHIND ACR Y AS CLRED. NO TFC CONFLICT OCCURRED.
