VFR departure out of sdl. Positive control by phx ATC departure. Controller asked what altitude was requested. Responded 15;500. Controller responded back. I heard climb to 15;500. I readback cleared 15;500. Controller later said the clearance was to 5;500. Very similar numbers may have caused error.
