Narrative:

Flight from opa locka, fl to orlando west field. No rain encountered along route. Being my first time into orlando west field, I spent about 10 mins looking for it. During this time, the WX got worse and I encountered scattered showers. I was about to change to my alternate airport (orlando executive) when I spotted orlando west. As I headed towards it I saw 2 X's on the runway indicating it was closed, and also debris on the field, but decided to fly-by the runway and check it out because the WX was rapidly deteriorating (clouds and rain). As I was parallel to the runway (similar to downwind), the rain started pouring down and visibility became very poor. I decided it was an emergency situation and my best option would be to land immediately, which I did. The landing went smoothly and under control. Because of the debris on the runway, I touched down about 1/3 of the way down the field (2/3 remaining) confident that I still had plenty of room to stop. The field is grass, was overgrown, and wet. Because of this, my brakes, although working properly, were not effective. The tires simply skidded over the wet grass. When I ran out of runway, I was going less than 10 mph, probably 5 mph. I hit a ditch which collapsed the nose gear and bent the propeller. There were no injuries or property damage other than the airplane.

Title: PLT OF SMA LANDED ON WET GRASS ARPT UNABLE TO STOP, WENT OFF END OF RWY.

Narrative: FLT FROM OPA LOCKA, FL TO ORLANDO WEST FIELD. NO RAIN ENCOUNTERED ALONG ROUTE. BEING MY FIRST TIME INTO ORLANDO WEST FIELD, I SPENT ABOUT 10 MINS LOOKING FOR IT. DURING THIS TIME, THE WX GOT WORSE AND I ENCOUNTERED SCATTERED SHOWERS. I WAS ABOUT TO CHANGE TO MY ALTERNATE ARPT (ORLANDO EXECUTIVE) WHEN I SPOTTED ORLANDO WEST. AS I HEADED TOWARDS IT I SAW 2 X'S ON THE RWY INDICATING IT WAS CLOSED, AND ALSO DEBRIS ON THE FIELD, BUT DECIDED TO FLY-BY THE RWY AND CHECK IT OUT BECAUSE THE WX WAS RAPIDLY DETERIORATING (CLOUDS AND RAIN). AS I WAS PARALLEL TO THE RWY (SIMILAR TO DOWNWIND), THE RAIN STARTED POURING DOWN AND VISIBILITY BECAME VERY POOR. I DECIDED IT WAS AN EMER SITUATION AND MY BEST OPTION WOULD BE TO LAND IMMEDIATELY, WHICH I DID. THE LNDG WENT SMOOTHLY AND UNDER CONTROL. BECAUSE OF THE DEBRIS ON THE RWY, I TOUCHED DOWN ABOUT 1/3 OF THE WAY DOWN THE FIELD (2/3 REMAINING) CONFIDENT THAT I STILL HAD PLENTY OF ROOM TO STOP. THE FIELD IS GRASS, WAS OVERGROWN, AND WET. BECAUSE OF THIS, MY BRAKES, ALTHOUGH WORKING PROPERLY, WERE NOT EFFECTIVE. THE TIRES SIMPLY SKIDDED OVER THE WET GRASS. WHEN I RAN OUT OF RWY, I WAS GOING LESS THAN 10 MPH, PROBABLY 5 MPH. I HIT A DITCH WHICH COLLAPSED THE NOSE GEAR AND BENT THE PROP. THERE WERE NO INJURIES OR PROPERTY DAMAGE OTHER THAN THE AIRPLANE.
