Narrative:
We landed and proceeded to the gate. After parking; we accomplished the parking flows and the parking checklist. With the checklist complete and the in report sent; I left the airplane and proceeded towards the employee parking lot. The captain stayed on board the airplane. He phoned me a few minutes after I had left the airplane and related that a ground worker had come on to the airplane while the captain was still on the plane to inform him that the number two engine was still running. He shut the engine down and reran the checklist. I was really shocked to hear this because; in my mind; I saw the captain shut down both engines. Somehow; when running the checklist; we both missed that the number two engine was still running.
