Narrative:
Smoke coming from overhead in cabin left side row 16. Smoke alarm going off in left rear blue room. We were 115 or so mi east of rno. Received radar vector back to rno. Made overweight landing (500 pounds over) in rno. Company found the problem. Maintenance put an MEL on the lights that were affected and we continued on.

Narrative: SMOKE COMING FROM OVERHEAD IN CABIN LEFT SIDE ROW 16. SMOKE ALARM GOING OFF IN LEFT REAR BLUE ROOM. WE WERE 115 OR SO MI E OF RNO. RECEIVED RADAR VECTOR BACK TO RNO.
