Narrative:

During 8/89 and multiple legs into bos, whenever the landing runway in use was 4R, the ATIS would say, 'ILS 4R,' then later, '4R G/south unusable.' we were cleared for ILS 4R several times by approach, and when queried about the G/south, each time approach would admit the ATIS and clearance should be localizer approach 4R. Also, the sky conditions were being reported as 'greater than 5000 and 5.' to me, this is nonstandard terminology. Other ATIS's in the area were reporting, 'sky clear, visibility 20 mi.'

Title: ACR PLT OBJECTS TO 2 ASPECTS OF ATIS PHRASEOLOGY USED AT BOS.

Narrative: DURING 8/89 AND MULTIPLE LEGS INTO BOS, WHENEVER THE LNDG RWY IN USE WAS 4R, THE ATIS WOULD SAY, 'ILS 4R,' THEN LATER, '4R G/S UNUSABLE.' WE WERE CLRED FOR ILS 4R SEVERAL TIMES BY APCH, AND WHEN QUERIED ABOUT THE G/S, EACH TIME APCH WOULD ADMIT THE ATIS AND CLRNC SHOULD BE LOC APCH 4R. ALSO, THE SKY CONDITIONS WERE BEING RPTED AS 'GREATER THAN 5000 AND 5.' TO ME, THIS IS NONSTANDARD TERMINOLOGY. OTHER ATIS'S IN THE AREA WERE RPTING, 'SKY CLR, VISIBILITY 20 MI.'
