Narrative:
After takeoff we contacted departure control on assigned frequency of 120.4. Controller gave us a right turn heading 040 degree vector for climb and assigned us 15,000' altitude. After several minutes we called departure to inquire how long we were to hold the 040 degree heading. (Our destination was south to dca.) a different controller informed us we were on the wrong frequency and requested we return to prior frequency. A check of the radios revealed that we had not changed frequency, we were still on the assigned departure frequency of 120.4. We attempted several calls to resolve the problem. At approximately 12,000' we started a turn to solberg VOR, our next fix on our flight plan. We made contact on another departure frequency the tower gave us. We don't know why this occurrence took place or how it took place.

Title: ACR LGT FLT CREW QUESTIONS EXTENDED VECTOR FROM LGA OPPOSITE THEIR DIRECTION OF FLT ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT THEY WERE ALLEGEDLY ON THE WRONG DEP CTL FREQ EVEN THOUGH THEY HAD RECEIVED NO FREQ CHANGE.
Narrative: AFTER TKOF WE CONTACTED DEP CTL ON ASSIGNED FREQ OF 120.4. CTLR GAVE US A RIGHT TURN HDG 040 DEG VECTOR FOR CLIMB AND ASSIGNED US 15,000' ALT. AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES WE CALLED DEP TO INQUIRE HOW LONG WE WERE TO HOLD THE 040 DEG HDG. (OUR DEST WAS S TO DCA.) A DIFFERENT CTLR INFORMED US WE WERE ON THE WRONG FREQ AND REQUESTED WE RETURN TO PRIOR FREQ. A CHECK OF THE RADIOS REVEALED THAT WE HAD NOT CHANGED FREQ, WE WERE STILL ON THE ASSIGNED DEP FREQ OF 120.4. WE ATTEMPTED SEVERAL CALLS TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. AT APPROX 12,000' WE STARTED A TURN TO SOLBERG VOR, OUR NEXT FIX ON OUR FLT PLAN. WE MADE CONTACT ON ANOTHER DEP FREQ THE TWR GAVE US. WE DON'T KNOW WHY THIS OCCURRENCE TOOK PLACE OR HOW IT TOOK PLACE.
