Narrative:
I called in to the airport on the CTAF frequency listed on current sectional maps to indicate approach and landing intentions at the auburn airport. As I was on downwind, unicom reported that a tower was operational on a different frequency. I changed to that frequency and landed west/O further incident. The macon FSS did not give any NOTAMS during a preflight briefing. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following: do not know why macon FSS did not advise me re: the new tower. P/T tower; unicom was still giving frequency advisories.

Title: PLT UNAWARE OF EXISTENCE OF TWR INADVERTENTLY PENETRATED ATA WITHOUT COM WITH TWR.
Narrative: I CALLED IN TO THE ARPT ON THE CTAF FREQ LISTED ON CURRENT SECTIONAL MAPS TO INDICATE APCH AND LNDG INTENTIONS AT THE AUBURN ARPT. AS I WAS ON DOWNWIND, UNICOM RPTED THAT A TWR WAS OPERATIONAL ON A DIFFERENT FREQ. I CHANGED TO THAT FREQ AND LANDED W/O FURTHER INCIDENT. THE MACON FSS DID NOT GIVE ANY NOTAMS DURING A PREFLT BRIEFING. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING: DO NOT KNOW WHY MACON FSS DID NOT ADVISE ME RE: THE NEW TWR. P/T TWR; UNICOM WAS STILL GIVING FREQ ADVISORIES.
