Narrative:
Flight was cleared as filed from cae to sju. Passing smelt intersection ZJX advised that radar service was terminated and cleared us to contact ny oceanic on commercial radio. Since we could not find an appropriate VHF frequency on latin american high/low chart #5/6, and had no HF capability, we advised ZJX of our situation and requested a VHF frequency, or a return to a suitable arwy. ZJX instructed us to turn toward and intercept arwy 3 to nucar intersection, direct gtk, then flight plan route. We complied and continued to destination.

Title: FLT CREW PLANNED AN EXTENDED OVER-WATER FLT WITHOUT THE REQUIRED COM RADIOS.
Narrative: FLT WAS CLRED AS FILED FROM CAE TO SJU. PASSING SMELT INTXN ZJX ADVISED THAT RADAR SVC WAS TERMINATED AND CLRED US TO CONTACT NY OCEANIC ON COMMERCIAL RADIO. SINCE WE COULD NOT FIND AN APPROPRIATE VHF FREQ ON LATIN AMERICAN HIGH/LOW CHART #5/6, AND HAD NO HF CAPABILITY, WE ADVISED ZJX OF OUR SITUATION AND REQUESTED A VHF FREQ, OR A RETURN TO A SUITABLE ARWY. ZJX INSTRUCTED US TO TURN TOWARD AND INTERCEPT ARWY 3 TO NUCAR INTXN, DIRECT GTK, THEN FLT PLAN ROUTE. WE COMPLIED AND CONTINUED TO DEST.
