Narrative:

My student and I were practicing touch-and-go lndgs at the willow run airport. After landing, and before applying power to takeoff, willow run tower advised us to hold in place, and then asked us to taxi immediately to parking. We replied that we were not based at willow run and would like to leave the pattern and asked for an explanation. The tower controller advised us that he had an emergency in progress and required us to depart the area immediately. We asked for and received a south departure after a takeoff on runway 32 (the runway we were presently holding in position on). After takeoff I advised my student to climb to 2000' MSL (our normal en route altitude for flying back to our base airport beneath the detroit TCA). After reaching the assigned altitude I dialed in the 165 degree radial off of the carleton VOR and advised my student to intercept and track the assigned radial to assure clearance from the TCA. In the meantime I resumed looking for traffic and monitoring his flying. We were initially off course to the west and my student made a correction back towards the east, and the TCA, to intercept the desired radial. While still showing a right-of-course deflection we were advised by willow run tower to immediately turn to a southwest heading and depart the TCA. I advised willow run that our navigation showed us clear of the TCA and was told to shut up and comply. After landing the VOR received passed a radial check. Possible causes of this accidental violation are a slightly out of tolerance VOR receiver, lack of a map on board, and dependence on memory for TCA avoidance. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following: reporter remains convinced there was no TCA penetration. He understands that the yip controller was upset because reporter questioned his instruction to abort takeoff and go to parking area in effort to get runway clear in connection with handling the emergency. Reporter is contrite about having hampered the controller in that way but points out that if controller had explained the situation 'just a little' he, the reporter, would have cleared the runway without hesitation. Reporter has not been contacted by the FAA concerning this incident.

Title: SMA, BEING USED IN PRIMARY FLT INSTRUCTION, ACCUSED OF TCA PENETRATION.

Narrative: MY STUDENT AND I WERE PRACTICING TOUCH-AND-GO LNDGS AT THE WILLOW RUN ARPT. AFTER LNDG, AND BEFORE APPLYING POWER TO TKOF, WILLOW RUN TWR ADVISED US TO HOLD IN PLACE, AND THEN ASKED US TO TAXI IMMEDIATELY TO PARKING. WE REPLIED THAT WE WERE NOT BASED AT WILLOW RUN AND WOULD LIKE TO LEAVE THE PATTERN AND ASKED FOR AN EXPLANATION. THE TWR CTLR ADVISED US THAT HE HAD AN EMER IN PROGRESS AND REQUIRED US TO DEPART THE AREA IMMEDIATELY. WE ASKED FOR AND RECEIVED A S DEP AFTER A TKOF ON RWY 32 (THE RWY WE WERE PRESENTLY HOLDING IN POSITION ON). AFTER TKOF I ADVISED MY STUDENT TO CLIMB TO 2000' MSL (OUR NORMAL ENRTE ALT FOR FLYING BACK TO OUR BASE ARPT BENEATH THE DETROIT TCA). AFTER REACHING THE ASSIGNED ALT I DIALED IN THE 165 DEG RADIAL OFF OF THE CARLETON VOR AND ADVISED MY STUDENT TO INTERCEPT AND TRACK THE ASSIGNED RADIAL TO ASSURE CLRNC FROM THE TCA. IN THE MEANTIME I RESUMED LOOKING FOR TFC AND MONITORING HIS FLYING. WE WERE INITIALLY OFF COURSE TO THE W AND MY STUDENT MADE A CORRECTION BACK TOWARDS THE E, AND THE TCA, TO INTERCEPT THE DESIRED RADIAL. WHILE STILL SHOWING A RIGHT-OF-COURSE DEFLECTION WE WERE ADVISED BY WILLOW RUN TWR TO IMMEDIATELY TURN TO A SW HDG AND DEPART THE TCA. I ADVISED WILLOW RUN THAT OUR NAVIGATION SHOWED US CLEAR OF THE TCA AND WAS TOLD TO SHUT UP AND COMPLY. AFTER LNDG THE VOR RECEIVED PASSED A RADIAL CHECK. HE UNDERSTANDS THAT THE YIP CTLR WAS UPSET BECAUSE REPORTER QUESTIONED HIS INSTRUCTION TO ABORT TKOF AND GO TO PARKING AREA IN EFFORT TO GET RWY CLEAR IN CONNECTION WITH HANDLING THE EMER. REPORTER IS CONTRITE ABOUT HAVING HAMPERED THE CTLR IN THAT WAY BUT POINTS OUT THAT IF CTLR HAD EXPLAINED THE SITUATION 'JUST A LITTLE' HE, THE REPORTER, WOULD HAVE CLRED THE RWY WITHOUT HESITATION. REPORTER HAS NOT BEEN CONTACTED BY THE FAA CONCERNING THIS INCIDENT.
