Narrative:
On oct/fri/89 I was captain, buf-ewr FL230. Approaching hnk VOR 2 mi northwest bos center, cleared me to FL210 read back and started to comply. Immediately, came another clearance to cross 10 mi east of hnk at FL180 and slow to 250 KTS. Advised that it was impossible to make restriction of altitude and airspeed. Bos center said make altitude first, had aircraft descending at 5000 FPM but with 507 KT glide slope it was impossible to be level in 8 mi which is what I had left after last clearance. Things were happening fast and I believe I came close to complying. But in the middle of this maximum effort, a frequency change was issued, to ny center asked them to check back with bos center to see if there was a problem. Only thing I was able to find out is that there was controller training in progress.
