Narrative:

2ND leg of the 1ST trip as a new captain. It was also the 2ND leg of the 1ST trip for my first officer. In addition, she was brand new to the company. This was her very first line trip. We were 1ST cleared to 17,000' and told to keep our speed up. We were later cleared for the profile descent, which called for us to cross drako at 17,000' at 250 KTS. While making sure I got all my duties as PF taken care of as well as trying to insure that my copilot didn't miss any of her PNF duties, I neglected one very important part -- slow to 250 KTS. This was due in part to my trying to utilize the EFIS system on the aircraft. I should have just flown it like I have for umpteen years, once things began to happen so fast. The only mistake the copilot made was not keeping a closer eye on the captain.
