Narrative:
I flew in from the northeast then turned toward the south till I had positive identification on the chemical plant at which time I turned toward the west. My contribution to this mayhem was my erroneous position report of 2 mi west of the chemical plant when in fact I was 2 mi east of the chemical plant. The part of this that really bothers me the most is that I never did realize I had given the erroneous report. I flew the prescribed approach route although you wouldn't know that based on my erroneous position report. I didn't think I should go around since I was lower, closer and had clearance to land. It's an uneasy feeling to know there's an airplane above and behind you when climbing out. I stayed low till I finally spotted him, small aircraft Z, when he made his turn out.

Narrative: I FLEW IN FROM THE NE THEN TURNED TOWARD THE S TILL I HAD POSITIVE IDENTIFICATION ON THE CHEMICAL PLANT AT WHICH TIME I TURNED TOWARD THE W. MY CONTRIBUTION TO THIS MAYHEM WAS MY ERRONEOUS POSITION REPORT OF 2 MI W OF THE CHEMICAL PLANT WHEN IN FACT I WAS 2 MI E OF THE CHEMICAL PLANT. THE PART OF THIS THAT REALLY BOTHERS ME THE MOST IS THAT I NEVER DID REALIZE I HAD GIVEN THE ERRONEOUS REPORT. I FLEW THE PRESCRIBED APCH ROUTE ALTHOUGH YOU WOULDN'T KNOW THAT BASED ON MY ERRONEOUS POSITION REPORT. I DIDN'T THINK I SHOULD GO AROUND SINCE I WAS LOWER, CLOSER AND HAD CLRNC TO LAND. IT'S AN UNEASY FEELING TO KNOW THERE'S AN AIRPLANE ABOVE AND BEHIND YOU WHEN CLIMBING OUT. I STAYED LOW TILL I FINALLY SPOTTED HIM, SMA Z, WHEN HE MADE HIS TURN OUT.
